Occupying the site of the old Central Police Station that was imploded following the Canterbury Earthquakes, the building represents the site developers and owners, Ngāi Tahu Property’s long term relationship with the city, and their strong desire to create a lasting space and amenities for the public.

The building structure comprises precast rib flooring spanning onto a structural steel superstructure with seismic resistance provided by Buckling Restrained Braces. The seismic braces were subjected to rigorous full scale testing prior to installation into the building to ensure full compliance and the highest level of confidence in the buildings future performance during large earthquakes.
