The Performing Arts Centre building contains two levels of teaching spaces which wrap around the north and west sides, administration spaces to the southern side and a 275 person theatre with associated performance spaces to the eastern side.
The exterior of the building is wrapped with insulated precast concrete panels interspersed with large areas of glazing for natural daylight. The theatre area is wrapped with concrete panels and large concrete bleachers form the seats to provide premium acoustic performance and sound separation from the adjacent teaching spaces.
The building was designed as an Importance Level 3 building with precast concrete panels forming the primary structure along with large roof steelwork elements and robust steel roof cross bracing. The foundations on site were specifically designed to resist lateral spread towards the river along with local secant pile ground improvement along the river bank.
